Mar – May
Spring
The season opens. Fewer people in Girona and on the coast road, and the driving days are running before the paddling ones get busy.
The whole coast in one day
A Costa Brava day trip is a long day out — eight to eleven and a half hours, with the drive in both directions already inside that number. Eight full-day departures on this site run that way, $64 to $129, and they fall into three kinds: paddling and coves, medieval Girona and the villages, or the coast road with a sit-down lunch. This page is what each kind gives you, where the hours actually go, and which one to book.

Quick answer
The short answer. A Costa Brava day trip runs eight to eleven and a half hours and costs $64 to $129. The lowest full-day fare is a coach-and-boat run to Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar at $64. The most reviewed day of all is the kayak, snorkel and cliff-jump trip at $96, which holds 4.9 across 3,156 reviews. Two-hour trips on the coast itself start at $34, but those are an afternoon, not a day.
What you are buying
Eight hours minimum, and the hours are not the thing that sets the fares apart.
The Costa Brava starts about an hour north of Barcelona and keeps going for another hundred and fifty kilometres of headlands, pine, and coves cut into pink rock. That geography is the whole reason a Costa Brava day trip is built the way it is: the coast is close enough to reach before mid-morning and far enough that nobody does it in three hours.
So the first thing to understand about any of these days is the shape of it. Of the eight full-day departures here, the shortest is eight hours and the longest is eleven and a half. Road time in both directions sits inside that figure, which is why two tours that look identical on the page can differ by two hours — the longer one is usually adding a stop inland rather than more time at the sea.
The second thing is that these days are not interchangeable. One group paddles: kayaks along the cliffs, snorkelling stops, and in one case jumps off the rocks. Another group is a driving day through whitewashed villages with a long stop in medieval Girona. The third is the coast road done properly — viewpoints, the clifftop botanical gardens, a sit-down lunch in a restaurant rather than a sandwich on a bench.
They are priced accordingly, $64 to $129, and the fares do not line up with the hours. The nine-hour coach-and-boat day is the cheapest thing on this list; the ten-hour lunch day is the most expensive. What you are paying for is not time, it is what the day puts in front of you.
Every full day, current fare
Each of these leaves Barcelona in the morning and is back the same evening.

The three kinds
Read the one that matches how you want to spend the hours.
Two of the full days are built around kayaks. The bigger one holds 3,156 reviews at 4.9, runs eight hours, costs $96 and includes lunch and jumps off the rocks; the smaller one caps the group at eight people, runs ten hours at $89, and includes lunch and photos. If a Costa Brava day trip is going to be the memory of the week, this is the version people talk about.
A driving day with a long stop in the old town: Roman history, medieval architecture, and the cathedral with the widest Gothic nave in the world. The three versions differ in what else they attach — whitewashed villages at $111, Peratallada and Calella de Palafrugell at $107, or Pals and a swim in the sea at $111.
The cheapest full day here is coach plus boat to Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, the town its own listing calls the pearl of this coast, at $64. The most expensive runs the clifftop botanical gardens and a sit-down lunch at $129. Same stretch of coast, two different paces.
One departure, 11.5 hours, $89, adds Montserrat inland before it reaches the sea. It is the longest day on this site and the one that covers the most ground; it is also the one where the coast is the last third of the day rather than the whole of it.
Verdict
One line: the kayak day if you are active, the Girona day if you are not.
If you only do one Costa Brava day trip and you are at all active, book the kayak, snorkel and cliff-jump day at $96. It carries 3,156 reviews at 4.9 — the next listing on this site has 2,098 — it runs eight hours rather than ten or eleven, and lunch is inside the fare. For a day on the water, that is the strongest record here by a wide margin.
If you would rather walk through old streets than paddle, the Girona and villages day at $111 is the one with the deepest history in it, and it holds 4.8 across 2,098 reviews. If you want the coast itself and nothing inland, the coach-and-boat day at $64 is both the cheapest full day here and the one that puts you on the water without any equipment.
The one to think twice about is the 11.5-hour monastery run at $89. It is good value for how much it covers, but it is a long day in a vehicle, and the Costa Brava part of it is the shortest of any tour on this page. Book it because you want the monastery, not because you want the coast.
Not sure the full day is what you want? Twelve tours compared.
Which one to pick→Getting out of the city
Travel is arranged by the operator; nothing here needs a hire car.
| Kind of day | How you travel | Where it reaches |
|---|---|---|
| Kayak days | Road transfer, then kayaks and snorkelling gear | Cliffs, coves and caves on the open coast |
| Girona days | Small-group vehicle or van, pickup on one listing | Girona old town plus one or two villages |
| Coach and boat | Coach out, then a boat along the coast | Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar |
| Lunch day | Coach along the coast road, stops at viewpoints | Clifftop gardens and a fortified town |
| Monastery day | Coach inland first, then across to the sea | Montserrat, Girona, then the coast |
When to go
Most of these run roughly March to October. That is the regional calendar, not a promise.
Mar – May
The season opens. Fewer people in Girona and on the coast road, and the driving days are running before the paddling ones get busy.
Jun – Aug
Everything is on sale at once and the kayak days book out first. This is when the sell-out warnings on the listings mean something; a few weeks of notice is sensible.
Sep – Oct
The quiet favourite. The full roster is still running, the old towns are easier to walk, and this is the easiest window of the year to get a seat on the day you want.
Nov – Feb
Outside the usual season. Water-based days are not the thing to plan a winter visit around; check the live listings for what is still on the calendar.
Typical mistakes
All five come from reading the hours and the fare and nothing else.
The 11.5-hour departure covers the most ground, but two of those hours are road. If the coast is why you came, a shorter day gives you more of it.
Three of the eight say lunch is included in their own listings. The other five do not, and on a ten-hour day that is a real difference in what you carry and what you spend.
The two-hour trips on this site start on the coast itself, at Sant Feliu de Guíxols and around Lloret de Mar. They are excellent and they are cheap, but you have to already be there — they are not a full day out of the city.
Several listings here carry sell-out warnings, and three of them ask to be booked hours in advance. In summer the kayak days are the first to go.
The kayak and diving listings say plainly that a trip can be moved or cancelled on sea conditions, decided at the start time, with a full refund if it cannot be rescheduled. Plan the rest of the day loosely.
Before you book
Thirty seconds, and it prevents the three most common disappointments.
Eight to 11.5 hours, plus getting to the meeting point. An evening departure and a full day out do not fit together comfortably.
Girona, Montserrat, Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, Pals, Peratallada and Calella de Palafrugell are not all on the same tour. Read the stops, not the title.
Lunch, kayaking gear and boat time are inside some fares and not others. The table above says which.
Some of these ask for one to ten hours of notice before the start time, which matters if you are deciding the night before.

Common questions
Between eight and eleven and a half hours, depending on the tour. The eight full-day departures on this site run 8 h, 9 h, 9 h, 10 h, 10 h, 10 h, 10 h and 11.5 h, and the road time in both directions is inside those figures.
The full days here run $64 to $129. The lowest fare is the nine-hour coach-and-boat day; the highest is the ten-hour day with lunch in a restaurant. Short two-hour trips on the coast itself start at $34.
The kayak, snorkel and cliff-jump day: 3,156 reviews at 4.9. The next listing on this site has 2,098 reviews at 4.8, so it leads on both count and score.
Yes, and that is what these tours exist for. Every full day on this page is driven by the operator, one of them offers pickup, and the coach-and-boat day replaces part of the road with a boat along the coast.
Most of these run roughly March to October. September and early October are the easiest window to get a seat while the whole roster is still operating; July and August are when the kayak days sell out first.
The paddling days are run guided and in small groups, and the shorter coastal versions are two hours rather than a full day, which is the gentler way in. What no listing promises is the sea — two of them state that a trip can be moved or refunded on sea conditions.
