Mar – Apr
March and April
The season opens and the Barcelona days are running. The two-hour paddles are the trips most exposed to what the sea is doing that morning.
Which coves the tours reach
Lists of the beaches in Costa Brava run to a hundred names, and most of them sit on a road you would have to drive yourself. This page stays with the water a booking puts you in. Twelve listings run on this coast — eight a full day out of Barcelona, four short trips you join on the coast itself — and between them they carry 14,450 reviews at 4.81. Fares start at $34.

Quick answer
The short answer. Nothing here is sold as a beach day on its own. The beaches in Costa Brava arrive attached to something else: a two-hour paddle out of Sant Feliu de Guíxols at $34, a bus-and-boat day from Barcelona at $64, or a van trip with a swim stop at $111. Choose the trip first and the sand comes with it.
Start with the trip
Twelve listings, two kinds of day, and one rule: the trip decides the beach.
Most beach lists for this region are written for a reader with a hire car. They range over two hundred kilometres of coastline and name coves no bookable trip goes near. Twelve listings run here, and the honest way to use them is backwards: pick the trip, and let it tell you which water you end up in.
The twelve split into two kinds of day, and the split decides everything. Eight are full days out of Barcelona, eight to eleven and a half hours, $64 to $129. The other four run two to two and a half hours and are joined already on the coast, at Sant Feliu de Guíxols or around Lloret de Mar. Sleeping in Barcelona rules those four out; staying on the coast makes them the cheaper and simpler answer.
The shore these listings describe is the middle of the region. Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, which one listing calls the “Pearl of the Costa Brava”; the channels, cliffs and small islands of S’Agaró Bay; the shore at Calella de Palafrugell; the medieval village of Pals inland. Those are the beaches in Costa Brava a booking actually sets you down on, and four of the twelve put you in the water rather than above it.
Tour by tour
Two listings take you along the rock coast at water level from Barcelona. The Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel & Cliff Jump at $96 is an eight-hour day, and its description is plain: paddling and snorkelling along the coastline, a jump from the rocks, and lunch. It carries 3,156 reviews at 4.9; the next listing down has 2,098. The small-group kayak day at $89 runs ten hours, of which the paddle is three, through hidden coves and sea caves, with lunch and photographs.
The two cheapest trips sit on the coast itself, and they are the ones that get wet. The Sea Caves Kayaking and Snorkeling Tour at $38 runs two hours out of Sant Feliu de Guíxols through the coves, caves, channels, cliffs and islands of S’Agaró Bay. The Kayak & Snorkeling Tour at $34 is the lowest fare on this site and paddles past cliffs, coves and small islands from the same town. Neither leaves Barcelona, and that is the point of them.
The coach days reach the sand differently: you arrive, you look, you sometimes swim. The Day Tour with Boat Trip at $64 is nine hours of bus and boat through Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, the cheapest of the Barcelona days, with 1,531 reviews. The Day Tour with Lunch at $129 is the highest fare here and spends ten hours on clifftop botanical gardens and a meal in a local restaurant. The van trip at $111 is the only one of the twelve whose description says outright that you swim in the Mediterranean, with the village of Pals the same day; the small-group day at $107 ends on the shore at Calella de Palafrugell after Girona and the stone village of Peratallada.
The last four are the odd ones out. The Vintage 4x4 Tour at $39 is two hours of viewpoints around Lloret de Mar; the discovery dive at $84 goes under the surface at Tossa de Mar rather than along it; and the two guided days at $111 and $89 reach these beaches in Costa Brava at the end of a day mostly about towns.
Every trip, current fare
All twelve, ordered by review count. The per-hour column is the fare divided by the length — the quickest way to weigh a long coach day against a short paddle.

The straight choice
From the city: the kayak day. From the coast: two hours and the lowest fare here.
Verdict, from Barcelona: book the kayak and snorkel day at $96. It is the only full day out of the city whose description puts you in the sea rather than beside it, lunch is in it, and its 3,156 reviews at 4.9 are the largest body of opinion here; the next listing has 2,098.
Want towns with the coast at the end? The coach days win on content, not on swimming. The nine-hour boat day at $64 is the cheapest way out of the city and takes in Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar from road and water. The eleven-and-a-half-hour trip at $89 adds the monastery and Girona — a lot of coach for one day, so read the length before the fare.
Already on the coast? Simpler still. Two hours and $34 puts you in the water at Sant Feliu de Guíxols with no travel day attached, and $38 buys the same two hours with the caves and channels of S’Agaró Bay written into the description. That is the honest reason the beaches in Costa Brava are cheapest to reach from a coastal base.
Getting there
Booking a two-hour listing from a Barcelona hotel is the mistake this page exists to prevent. Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar are towns on the coast, and the short listings assume you are standing in them. The eight longer ones do the travelling for you, which is what the extra hours and the higher fares buy.
Read the length column as travel plus content. A nine-hour listing is not nine hours of coast; a good part of it is road in both directions. That is why the per-hour figures above differ so sharply, and why the beaches in Costa Brava feel much closer once your base moves out of the city.
When to go
Most of these day tours run roughly from March to October. That is the regional calendar rather than a promise from any operator, and the sea decides the paddling trips on the day.
Mar – Apr
The season opens and the Barcelona days are running. The two-hour paddles are the trips most exposed to what the sea is doing that morning.
May – Jun
The full programme is on and places are still easy to find a few days ahead.
Jul – Aug
Everything runs and everything fills. Book the long days out of Barcelona well ahead.
Sep – Oct
The second good window, with the whole list in place to the end of October.
Nov – Feb
Outside the usual run of these listings. Check the calendar on the listing itself.
Common mistakes
Each costs either money or a morning, and all four come from reading a regional beach list instead of the listing in front of you.
The four short listings are joined on the coast. Nothing collects you from the city for them, and no fare here covers that journey.
None of the twelve is sold as one. The sand arrives as part of a kayak morning, a coach route or a swim stop, and each description says which.
Ten hours at $129 and two hours at $34 are not the same purchase. The per-hour column settles it.
The paddling listings depend on sea conditions on the day. Pick your date, then keep a second morning loose.

Common questions
The listings name Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar on the bus-and-boat day, the coves, caves and islands of S’Agaró Bay on the two kayak trips from Sant Feliu de Guíxols, and the shore at Calella de Palafrugell on the small-group day from Barcelona.
No listing here is sold that way. The sand comes attached to a kayak morning from $34, a coach-and-boat day from $64, or the van trip at $111 whose description includes a swim.
Four do: the two-hour paddles at $34 and $38, the eight-hour kayak day at $96, and the discovery dive at Tossa de Mar at $84.
Four of the twelve. Two kayak trips and the vintage 4x4 run two hours and the discovery dive two and a half, all joined at Sant Feliu de Guíxols, around Lloret de Mar or at Tossa de Mar. They do not collect you from the city.
$34 for a two-hour guided paddle from Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the lowest fare on this site. From Barcelona, the nine-hour bus-and-boat day at $64.
Roughly March to October, which is the calendar of the region rather than a promise from an operator. The paddling trips also depend on sea conditions on the morning itself.
